Location

Remote within the Continental U.S., and must be able to work Monday-Friday from 12 noon to 4 pm Eastern Time. (These are the hours where all staff must be available; the other working hours within the day are flexible according to one’s time zone.)

About Us

The Fines & Fees Justice Center (FFJC) is a national center for advocacy, policy, information, and collaboration on effective solutions to the unjust and harmful imposition and enforcement of fines and fees in the criminal legal system. FFJC’s mission is to end abusive collection practices, eliminate fees in the legal justice system, and make fines proportional to the offense and the individual. FFJC works with impacted communities, advocates, and justice system stakeholders to create an equitably-funded justice system that treats individuals fairly and ensures public safety.

Position Summary

The Social Media Manager will serve as a key member of our communications team, providing essential strategic, tactical, and creative digital support to effectively advance the FFJC’s mission and policy priorities. The focus of this role is to oversee and produce FFJC’s daily social media content and editorial calendar; develop innovative ways to drive audience engagement and growth across social platforms; and monitor the performance of social media efforts.

The ideal candidate brings substantial expertise operating on major social media platforms, developing engaging written, visual and video content, a passion for online advocacy and communications, and proven ability to effectively coordinate content across multiple platforms and within deadlines.

This position reports to the Director of Communications and works closely with the Deputy Director of Communications to achieve programmatic objectives.

Essential Responsibilities and Tasks

  • Create strategic social media campaigns and manage the social media accounts to align social with legislative priorities, national campaigns, research findings, advocacy initiatives, partner requests and other relevant content.
  • Develop written and visual content for social platforms, including assisting with the curation of audio and video and other multimedia content.
  • Draft and edit newsletter and email content with Deputy Director.
  • Manage editorial calendar, monitor the news cycle, and communicate relevant news affecting our internal and external stakeholders.
  • Track and report on metrics, summarize results, and prepare monthly reports analyzing social performance of FFJC accounts. Devise new strategies when needed and achieve growth in terms of followers and engagement, and identify opportunities for growth and improvement.
  • Oversee daily posting and actively monitor and respond to comments.
  • Monitor and report on industry trends in social media usage and engagement to inform FFJC’s social media content and strategies.
  • Assist with FFJC’s communications strategies, including audience targeting, messaging strategy, and goal-setting/metrics.

Minimum Qualifications

  • At least four years of professional communications, digital, and/or social media strategy and production experience.
  • Strong organization and tracking skills with attention to detail and deadlines.
  • Familiarity with Google Analytics and social media analytics platforms.
  • Experience using Mailchimp for email campaigns and email outreach.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills, including ability to write clean, compelling copy on-deadline for different digital formats and audiences. Ability to adapt content into both breaking news and longer-term digital campaigns.
  • Familiarity with creating, editing, and managing posts and webpages on WordPress sites.
  • Ability to create basic graphics using Canva, Photoshop or similar, and to take and edit photos and videos using a mobile phone or similar technology.
  • A sense of humor, and ability to work collaboratively.

Nice to Have

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Familiarity with/demonstrated interest in criminal legal reform or related social justice issues.
  • Proficiency in Photoshop/InDesign.

Compensation 

$60,000-$65,000 depending on experience, with excellent benefits including 401k matching, 100% premium coverage for health care, and generous leave policy. The comprehensive benefits package includes 100% employer-paid health, dental, and vision insurance for employees (and their families). Employees are able to enroll in a 401k retirement plan and are eligible for a 3% automatic contribution and up to a 3% employer match on 401k contributions. Employees are also eligible for pre-tax transportation benefits. Employees will receive 120 hours of vacation time, 80 hours of health leave, up to 2 days of casual leave, and 20 hours of volunteer leave annually. Employees will also receive 13 paid holidays throughout the calendar year. Employees are eligible for 12 weeks of paid family and medical leave after 90 days of employment.
