New Jersey S48: Concerns juvenile incarceration and parole

This bill eliminates certain fines imposed on juveniles and eliminates New Jersey courts’ discretion to impose fines on juveniles as a penalty for delinquency.

Key Provisions
  • Eliminates the full payment of any fine or restitution as a requirement for the termination of post-incarceration supervision.
  • Repeals the assessment of a monetary penalty for a juvenile adjudicated delinquent for an offense in the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th degree or a disorderly persons or petty disorderly person offense. 
  • Repeals the assessment of $30 for each adjudication of delinquency.
