Director of State and Local Advocacy
Leisa Moseley-Sayles is the Director of State and Local Advocacy at the Fines and Fees Justice Center (FFJC). Formerly the Nevada State Director, Leisa brings invaluable lived experience and years of advocacy and policy expertise to this role. Her work has centered on addressing unjust fines and fees practices, collaborating with legislators, judges, law enforcement, and other justice system stakeholders to craft and pass transformative legislation. Key reforms she has championed include decriminalizing minor traffic violations, eliminating record sealing fees for victims of sex trafficking, and removing numerous fees for incarcerated people. In her role as Director of State and Local Advocacy, she leads FFJC’s talented State Teams’ advocacy efforts, manages our Cities and Counties for Fine and Fee Justice project, and oversees our local-level advocacy efforts across the country.
A seasoned activist and strategist, Leisa has extensive experience working on political campaigns at every level. She has four national campaigns under her belt, including Barack Obama’s 2008 presidential campaign and Bernie Sanders’ 2016 and 2020 campaigns. Leisa notably served as the Nevada Political Director for Bernie Sanders’ 2020 presidential campaign, a role uncommon for Black women. Her activism work focuses on the racial, social, and economic justice issues affecting Black and other minority communities, with a specific interest in issues impacting women and children.
Educated in Criminal Justice, Psychology, and Sociology, Leisa is a frequent speaker at conferences and panels discussing the social and emotional effects of systemic injustice. In addition to her advocacy work, she is dedicated to community service, mentoring young women and serving on local boards. Leisa resides in Las Vegas, NV with her husband and is a proud mother of four adult children, one teen, and grandmother to one granddaughter. In her spare time, she competes in fitness competitions and authors a blog aimed at inspiring women to know and understand their self-worth.
