Estimating Earnings Impact of Driver’s Licence Revocations in North Carolina

In North Carolina, a driver’s license can be revoked for failure to pay court ordered monetary obligations and failure to appear in court. Millions of people rely on their licenses to obtain and access employment, so the loss of a driver’s license can have a significant impact on their earnings. In this brief, the authors provide a high level estimate of between $6.5 and $8.8 billion earnings loss one year after revocation.
