The Price of Justice: Rethinking the Consequences of Justice Fines and Fees FY 2016 Competitive Grant Announcement

This grant program was intended to provide funding to state and local governments and federally recognized Indian tribes to test ways to improve systems of criminal justice fines and fees. In recent months and years leading up to the release of this grant opportunity, criticism of fines and fees was building in light of the Ferguson Report and briefs issued by the White House. Each award was estimated at $500,000 for a 36-month project period. This announcement also outlines what expenses the award can be used for, eligibility requirements, and the application evaluation criterion.
