Prison commissaries nationwide are inconsistent in their pricing. The Appeal underwent a nine-month investigation to collect commissary prices and markups from 46 states and created the first national database of prison commissary lists. The data is organized into three tabs: the commissary lists, which link commissary lists from each state; summary data, which provides a state-by-state summary; and detailed price information, which includes raw price data. The database also includes the availability of prices and product markups.
