Missed appearances can have negative consequences for court users, as well as courts themselves. This report identifies four main ways missed court appearances impact court operations: caseflow & workload, staffing, public perception of courts, and financial. The authors also highlight strategies for improving court participation, and present models for quantifying the consequences of missed court appearances so courts can develop an understanding of how they impact their resource allocation.
