Motion Eliminating Los Angeles County Criminal System Administrative Fees

This motion ends the imposition and collection of all discretionary criminal legal fees collected by Los Angeles County and discharges all outstanding debts. The motion also requires the Board of Supervisors to report quarterly on their progress in discontinuing fee collection and releasing outstanding debt, as well as reducing the County’s reliance on criminal system administrative fees. Finally, the motion directs the County’s Legislative Affairs division to inform the County’s delegation to the California Legislature to support SB 144, a bill that eliminates California county’s discretion to impose many of these fees.

The motion passed unanimously on February, 18, 2020.
