North Dakota HB 1417
The North Dakota legislature enacted legislation repealing the authority to assess supervision fees. Previously, courts were permitted to order supervision costs and fees of not less than fifty-five dollars per month. The bill also eliminates costs for indigent defense services and repeals the authority of the court to reimburse indigent defendant costs and expenses. Additionally, the bill requires a study on court fines and fees, including the total and rate of fees collected, and an evaluation of practices in other states and the overall impacts on an individual.
