He is located in Northern Nevada and along with State Director Leisa Moseley works to advance state and local campaigns for fines and fees reform. He is focused on reforming the state’s misdemeanor statutes, gathering input from a diverse group of Nevadans including those in rural communities, and creating a more fair and just system for all. He is working with a diverse group of stakeholders, nonprofit partners, elected officials and community members to address Nevada’s unique needs.
Prior to becoming Nevada’s Deputy Director of the Fines and Fees Justice Center Nick worked as a Policy and Program associate for the ACLU of Nevada (ACLUNV). He ran the ACLUNV’s Stop Solitary Project where he successfully improved solitary confinement conditions in Nevada’s local jails. He helped to build the Justice Reform and Accountability Alliance (JRAA), a diverse group of reform-minded organizations that pushes criminal justice reform in Nevada. During the 81st legislative session he worked alongside the JRAA coalition to successfully cap deductions from inmate trust accounts and partnered with the Fines and Fees Justice Center to decriminalize traffic tickets and end driver’s license suspension for failure to pay fines and fees. Nick also spent time interning with the Washoe County Public Defender’s office as a social worker where he saw first hand the realities of the criminal justice system.
Nick was born and raised in Northern Nevada and received both a BA in English and a Master’s Degree in Social Work from the University of Nevada, Reno. In his free time Nick enjoys camping and skiing in the Sierra Nevada mountains, attending live music and art events, and spending time with his family at Lake Tahoe. His deep-rooted connection to his community and the state of Nevada drive his advocacy and his desire to improve the justice system for all Nevadans.
