Since May 2019 when she received a letter from the DMV about her license suspension, Janet has had to call Lyfts, take the bus, or rely on her sister to get from place to place. Unbeknownst to Janet, her ex-boyfriend and the father of her son accumulated more than a $1000 in toll violations and got two red light camera tickets while driving her car. Janet knew that she was responsible for a few of the toll violations, but she had no idea that there were so many violations involving her vehicle. When Janet received the letter, she had to push the situation aside because all of her focus and energy was devoted to the custody battle involving her son and her ex-partner who got all the tickets. She planned to pay off this debt after she filed her taxes the following year. In the meantime, her license will remain suspended, she will be inconvenienced by not being able to drive legally, and the late fees on her tickets will continue to drive up her overall debt.
