People Over Profits: A Truly Free, No Cost Tablet Program for Incarcerated People in San Francisco
Tablets are often utilized in jails and prisons to generate revenue from incarcerated individuals and their families, with high costs for the tablets and access to services making them unaffordable for many. In May 2023, the City and County of San Francisco launched a free tablet program for people incarcerated in local jails. Through the program every service is free and users have access to e-books, audiobooks, movies, and music provided through a collaboration with the San Francisco Public Library.
